If you’re feeling a bit calmer and just need some guidance on what to do or avoid, here are some tips:
Schedule a Medical and Prenatal Visit
Your first step should be to contact a doctor for prenatal care. If you don’t have insurance, explore how to get coverage as soon as possible—it’s essential for both you and your baby.
Avoid Alcohol, Drugs, and Cigarettes
These can harm you and your baby. If you’re taking medication, check with your doctor to see if it’s safe or if there are better alternatives during pregnancy.

Take Folic Acid and Prenatal Vitamins
Look for a multivitamin with folic acid (600 mcg daily) or buy folic acid separately. It’s vital for your baby’s healthy development.
Focus on Healthy Eating and Gentle Exercis
Start eating balanced meals and consider light exercise. Staying active can reduce stress and prepare your body for labor. Always ask your doctor what’s best for you.
Seek Emotional Support
Feeling anxious or overwhelmed is normal. Talk to someone you trust or consider speaking with a counselor. We offer counseling at our center to ensure you don’t face this journey alone.
Get Enough Rest
Your body is working harder than ever. Make sure to sleep enough and take breaks when you need to.
Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water throughout the day—it’s good for you and your baby.
Be Mindful of Posture
As your body changes, maintaining good posture will help prevent back pain. When lifting, use your legs instead of your back.
Start Planning for Delivery
When the time comes, explore your birth options and consider attending prenatal classes to prepare. We offer classes every Tuesday & Thursday at 10:30 AM in Spanish. If you are interested call this number: (301) 587-9516
Build a Support Network
Surround yourself with people who will encourage and help you. If you’re feeling alone, know that we’re here to guide and support you.
Prepare Financially
